Cape Coral, the second largest city in Florida by land area, offers a unique cycling experience with more than 90 miles of interconnected bike routes. Situated in southwest Florida, the city enjoys a subtropical climate with warm temperatures throughout the year. Summers are hot, humid and rainy, while winters bring a dry and pleasant climate. On average, Cape Coral receives 130 cm of precipitation annually, with most of the rain falling between May and September.
The route is rural and passes through large developing subdivisions north of Cape Coral. Bike trails run through much of the canal city of Cape Coral. The route crosses the Caloosahatchee River in 2 miles. The bridge has wide shoulders in both directions.
One of the most attractive features of Cape Coral and Southwest Florida is its excellent year-round climate. The area has an average of 335 days of bright sunshine each year (the other 30 days are only of moderate sunshine). While the summers are very warm, humid and rainy, the winters in Cape Coral are absolutely beautiful. Southwest Florida receives about 53 inches of rain each year, most of which falls from May to September.
During the summer months, evening rains come regularly with heavy downpours and storms that can last just a couple of hours before disappearing. Then the sun reappears, the heat and humidity return, and everything is fine until the next day, when the cycle starts again. Since its creation, Cape Coral has been known as a sleepy community with a large retired population. Today, Cape Coral offers a lively strip of restaurants and shops along the Cape Coral Parkway, on Del Prado Boulevard.

An important addition to Cape Coral was the construction of the 3,000-foot Cape Coral Bridge over the Caloosahatchee River, which opened in early 1964. Since Cape Coral has become a resident peninsula, there are no major shopping centers within the city. Among the most famous and most important events in Cape Coral is the Oktoberfest, organized by the German-American Social Club. During the rest of the 1950s and early 1960s, development progressed rapidly, mainly at Redfish Point, south of Cape Coral Parkway. The story of Cape Coral began in 1957 when two brothers from Baltimore, Maryland - Leonard and Jack Rosen - flew across the peninsula then known as Redfish Point.
Finding your way around Cape Coral can be difficult if you don't know how it's distributed. We recommend taking a short walk along the pier which will take you across the water for about 200 feet and at dusk you can enjoy a magnificent view of the water and Cape Coral.
